Test Day Checklist

Everything you need to have ready before your driving test — go through this the night before so nothing's left to chance on the day.

Arrive at least 10 minutes early

You must bring with you

Please note: you must bring all documents below — your test will not go ahead if any are missing.

Learner Permit

Bring the original — not a photocopy. The card must be in date.

Insurance Certificate

Bring the original insurance certificate for the vehicle you'll be tested in.

Insurance Letter

If your name does not appear on the certificate itself, you must also bring a letter from your insurance company confirming you are named on the policy.

Vehicle requirements

L plates clearly displayed

Front and back of the vehicle. They must be visible and not obscured.

Valid Tax, Insurance & NCT discs

All three must be displayed in the front window and in date on test day.

Working bulbs

Indicators and brake lights must all be working correctly. Check them the day before — it's the most common reason a test is cancelled on the spot.

Dashboard warning lights

Tests are frequently not conducted because of warning symbols showing on the dashboard. Take a moment before you set off — if any of these (or anything similar) is lit on the dash, your test will likely be turned away.

Common dashboard warning lights — battery, traction control, brake, airbag, engine, oil, ABS, coolant temperature, tyre pressure, fuel

If a warning light is on, get it checked before your test date.
